About Sardar Vallabhai Patel
We all know him as Vallabhai Patel or Sardar Patel but his actually name is Vallabhbhai Jhaverbhai Patel, born to Zaverbhai Patel (father) and Ladbai (mother) on October 31st 1875 (not mentioned officially) in Nadiad, Gujarat. He married Zaverbai in 1891 and had two children – Maniben Patel daughter and Dahyabhai Patel son.
How he got the name “Sardar” and “Iron man of India”
Sardar for Against the Tax – After taking charge as the Secretary of the Gujarat Sabha in 1917, massive floods occurred in Kheda which lead to major loss for the farmers. However, British officers insisted to pay tax to the government. At the time he started a massive No Tax Campaign on behalf of farmers. Later in 1928 again British authorities tried to hike tax in Bardoli, but he rejected the settlement made by British and started campaigning, gathered crowd support to fight against Tax. This movement forced the British Govt. to handover the lands taken away from the villagers. For his immense effort on the Bardoli success favouring farmers, his followers and crowd started calling him as ‘Sardar‘.
Iron man of India for integrating 565 princely states into Indian union –
Post-Independence of India, Vallabhai Patel was elected as first deputy president of India in 1946, under President Jawaharlal Nehru. At that time there were a 565 princely states in India that were ruled by Maharajas and Nawabs in some districts. Many of these extended their hand to be a part of United Indian but few of them like Nizam of Hyderabad and the Nawab of Junagarh initially opposed to join India.
However, President Jawaharlal Nehru and Mahatma Gandhi strongly believed on Vallabhai Patel capabilities to handle such situations and appointed him to solve the problems of states individuality. After a long struggle Vallabhai succeeded in integrating around 562 princely states into Indian Union. For his Effort, Commitment towards states integration, Sardar Patel got name ‘Iron man of India’ and ‘Iron man’.
In remembrance of his contribution towards uniting India Government of India, introduced Rashtriya Ekta Diwas to pay tribute to this great man. Our honorable Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated this in 2014. Now, it’s time for India to pay respect towards Iron man of India, great politician, dynamic independence movement leader Sardar Vallabhai Patel for his pivot role in keeping India united.

Statue of Unity, an iconic statue dedicated to visionary leader Sardar Vallabhai Patel for his immense hard work on United India. Construction of this monument began on 31st October 2013 and Unveiled on 31st October 2018 by the prime minister of India, Sri Narendra Modi.
This statue is constructed with height of 182 meters (597 ft.) with base 240 metres (790 ft.). This made it to be the tallest statue in the world defeating Spring Temple Buddha, which is 128 meters (420 ft.) high. This statue not only stands on high in meters but also stands on historical and spiritual values for this generation.
